COFFEE MCO

Koreatown, Los Angeles

The original roof patio was covered with wooden tiles which trapped the space even though it was outdoors. The idea to use artificial turf was to bring a sense of nature up to the rooftop which would bring about a relaxing atmosphere. Texture and materiality play a huge role in the design concept. Not only did the design need to engage the sense of sight but also the sense of touch. The sensation of walking on the grass will subconsciously hint to the user that they have entered a different area which is essential in inclusive design. The table and chair have been updated to sustainable furniture that brings a variety of textures and materials.
